Legion Academy Spotlight- Jake Stone

This week the Legion Community Foundation would like to Spotlight a member of our U23 Legion Academy. 

The 6’3″ and 215lbs,  20-year-old flanker Jake Stone has played with the San Diego Legion Academy Team, since its inaugural season in 2019, and during the 2022 MLR preseason trained with the MLR team.


Jake is from San Diego, California, and attended Clairemont High School, where he played Varsity rugby and water polo. He captained both teams his senior year. In water polo, Jake was the starting set, all CIF honors and 1st team all-league honors, and Offensive Player of the Year for two consecutive years. Leading the team to San Diego League Champions in 2017.



Jake spent the last summer playing rugby with the Western Province Rugby Academy and Hamiltons RFC in Stellenboch, South Africa. Due to Covid restrictions has to return in 2022. Stone played on the 2019 Nike Selects as the starting 7 & forwards captain for the Great Northwest Tournament and Australia tours. Stone earning varsity selection and  2 International caps as starting 7 in the Canadian Tour with EIRA U18's. 

Jake has been immersed in the San Diego youth rugby community since 2011, when he joined the San Diego Young Aztecs Rugby Club. Most recently, Jake attended Mira Costa and Miramar Community college and is a San Diego Lifeguard completing his EMT and Open Water certifications.
