Support the Legion Community Foundation - Legion Academy Tour Participation Support
Help every selected athlete attend - regardless of financial circumstance.
The Legion Academy end-of-season tour is a defining experience: high-performance training, team standards, cultural learning, and meaningful time together as a group. For some families, the cost of travel makes the tour out of reach — even for athletes who have earned selection.
This page is for parents and supporters who are in a position to pay it forward by sponsoring some or all of another athlete’s tour costs.
Why tour support matters
Tours accelerate development in a way local programming can’t replicate:
- High-performance reps: concentrated training and match experiences
- Maturity and confidence: athletes grow through new environments and responsibility
- Team culture: shared standards, accountability, and belonging
- Perspective: cultural exposure and gratitude that lasts beyond sport
Most importantly: selection should drive participation - not affordability.
What your sponsorship covers
Tour Participation Support helps cover the real costs that can prevent an athlete from attending, including:
- Flights (where applicable)
- Ground transport (airport transfers, buses/vans, local travel)
- Accommodation and tour logistics
- Meals and basic tour support (where included in the program plan)
- Training and match preparation costs
- Duty-of-care and supervision infrastructure to ensure safe youth travel
Support can be applied as a full sponsorship or partial support depending on need.
Choose a sponsorship level
Option 1: $1,000-$2,500 | Sponsor a meaningful portion of one athlete’s costs
Ideal for families who want to make a direct, tangible contribution.
Suggested giving levels (examples you can use on-page):
- $1,000 meaningfully reduces overall travel burden for one athlete
- $2,500 covers a major share of tour travel expenses
Option 2: $5,000 | Fully sponsor a player
If you’d like your donation to cover an athlete’s full tour participation cost, we’ll apply it where the need is highest.
- $5,000 can fully sponsor an athlete’s tour participation
Option 3: $10,000-$25,000 | Contribute to the Tour Scholarship Pool
Help fund multiple athletes through a shared pool that LCF allocates based on financial need.
Choose a level to sponsor multiple players' participation.
How athletes are supported
LCF manages tour support carefully to protect dignity and ensure fairness:
- support is needs-based
- families receive clear information on what is covered
- we minimize stigma and keep the focus on team culture and opportunity
- sponsors can choose to give anonymously (and we generally recommend it)
Why parents choose to give
Parents often tell us they support tour access because:
- they want every kid who earns selection to have the same chance
- they believe sport should build community, not inequality
- they’ve seen how tours shape confidence, maturity, and friendships
- they want their own child to be part of a team culture that looks after others
This is one of the most meaningful ways to strengthen the Academy: not just by funding the program - but by funding the opportunity to belong.
FAQ
Can my donation be anonymous?
Yes. You can donate anonymously, and we can also keep sponsor information private from athletes and families.
Can I sponsor a specific athlete?
In most cases, we apply support based on need rather than earmarking to a named athlete. If you have a request, contact us and we’ll advise what’s appropriate and compliant.
How will I know my donation made a difference?
We provide sponsor updates in an appropriate, privacy-respecting way - including tour participation outcomes and post-tour reflections where possible.
